Kara McIntosh

Kara McIntosh focuses her painting practice on expanded explorations of the landscape. In development of her work, McIntosh is inspired by a consideration of how we experience a sense of place. Her paintings are rendered in a combination of loose impasto and careful marks, with bright and often unexpected colours peeking through the natural compositions. Though often presenting specific locales, her painterly portrayals of those sites offer an engaging interpretation on landscape as a traditional subject matter.

“Inspired by the way that movement and light inform the complementary relationship between land or water and the sky, I work ‘en plein air’, but also use photographs and sketchbook notes to help inform my studio practice.”
